PhD by Research
Cosmopolitan University offers research doctorates, requiring no course work but only the designing and executing of a research project [ = dissertation] through guided independent study/research. It's based on the procedures how one gets a doctoral degree at European universities. It is possible to do the program entirely via the Internet. The current fee is $ 2,000. It is an earned degree. The time frame is two years, in case you have already a dissertation ready the entire process can be completed within 6 month.
How to obtain a research doctorate at CU - The basics
1. See if you fulfill the requirements:
A Master's Degree or equivalent like a "Diplom" of a German
university/"Fachhochschule", or a qualification deemed to be equivalent, or
have other qualifications and/or proven levels of
competence in terms of knowledge and skill, providing it can be evidenced.
There maybe considered exceptions with regard to the masters degree, depending on your curriculum vitae and your previous outstanding achievements (like you have authored books OF SCIENTIFIC VALUE/INTEREST or invented something of importance for mankind).
2. Send your DETAILED resume to maindesk3@cosmoedu.net
CV must include:
Personal information (name, place of birth, place of residence, nationality)
Contact address, email, and telephone number
Academic qualification with final mark, indicating where and when obtained
Academic curriculum indicating examinations passed, with the grade awarded
A summary of research undertaken
List of publications, if any
PLUS your resume must contain the following statement: "I hereby assure on my
honor, that all the data stated in my resume is true, and I did not leave out
any important facts."
You also must add a scan of a NOTARIZED copy of the main page of your passport.
In addition a scan of a notarized copy of your master's degree (or equivalent degree) is required, too.
3. A dissertation is required. Prepare one (or two) research proposal(s) [SEE SAMPLE] , and email them to the Office of Post-Graduate studies. [ dissertation -- a formal and lengthy discourse or treatise on some subject, esp. one based on original research and written in partial fulfillment of requirements for a doctorate.]
The time frame for submission of the dissertation is TWO YEARS (max.).
If you have already a dissertation prepared, feel free to email it to us, preferably as a *doc document or something similar (NO PDF format though!). The dissertation MUST NOT have been published before.
The requirements of the dissertation are outlined here! (pls. read it BEFORE submitting or writing something!)
4. Wait for our response. CU or a CU professor who will become your guiding professor will contact you with further details. [In case no professor is available or interested we cannot process your request.]
5. Fees involved: Upon approval you are asked to transfer
the current fee
of $ 2,000. This fee is due to be paid upfront AFTER you have been
admitted to the program.
6. Eventually an oral exam of about 2-3 hours on the subject of your dissertation called "Rigorosum" is mandatory where you "defend" your thesis. If available the Rigorosum can be done by videoconferencing, or even by online discussion (chat). (However, NOT simply by email). Participants are the candidate, the guiding professor and one (in some cases two) additional expert(s) approved by CU.
