COSMOPOLITAN UNIVERSITY NEWS March 2008

Dear Friends of CU:

1.
Since we have a department of religion at CU, we think it's
high time for a department of atheism, which will be created in
April 2008. Professorships are vacant, feel free to apply.

2.
Our digital student online library keeps growing, we now have 15,000 books
available for registered students.

3.
Our IT department experts have searched for, encountered and tested more FREE and usefulsoftware and/or services which we would like to recommend to you:

3.1. Essential PIM
is a great Personal Information Manager. It lets you also import data from Outlook 2007, and export data to html, docx, rtf formats or print it to a pdf file, thus also being the best tool for a diary we have found so far. Highly recommended!
www.essentialpim.com

3.2. Auslogic Disk Defrag
Let’s you defrag your harddisk.
http://www.auslogics.com/

3.3. bxNewFolder
bxNewFolder adds a "New Folder" button to the toolbar of Windows Explorer. It also provides a hotkey (F12) to create a new folder within the Explorer quickly.
http://www.baxbex.com

3.4.
Having trouble playing those downloaded video clips? Get the VLC player. It also captures the screen, where other programs only produce a worthless black picture.

4.
Windows Tip
Save time entering web addresses in a browser. Type it without the http://www prefix and the .com suffix, simply type the basic name and press CTRL-ENTER. Windows will complete the address.

That's all for today!

Dear friends of CU:

1. CU has again searched for, encountered and tested more FREE and useful
software and/or services which we would like to recommend to you:

Peer Guardian for those who like filesharing
PeerGuardian 2 is Phoenix Labs’ premier IP blocker for Windows. PeerGuardian2 integrates support for multiple lists, list editing, automatic updates, and blocking all of IPv4 (TCP, UDP, ICMP, etc), making it the safest and easiest way to protect your privacy on P2P.
http://phoenixlabs.org/pg2/

To back up your registry can save you lots of time, hassle, frustration, if you
mess up your computer, e.g. if you installed a poorly designed program.
ERUNT backs up your registry with a few mouseclicks and restores it if necessary.
A must have
http://www.larshederer.homepage.t-online.de/erunt/

Much faster than email is to deposit a large file online at
www.yousendit.com for the recipients to download it.

2. Dr. M. has begun a new research project on the future usage of the world wide web.
It’s a non-profit project which results will be freely available for the interested public. It has been made possible by donations.

More (for profit) research projects are currently being planned and outlined,
and will be announced online shortly.

3. CU continuously adds new (free) online courses
e.g. http://www.cosmoedu.net/coursejournalism.html

http://www.cosmoedu.net/coursebusiness.html

4. Professor Candhales (arts department) passed away. May he rest in peace. He will be truly missed. We will keep his legacy alive by keeping his paintings in a special online gallery we will set up shortly.

5. Dr. T.J. Hawkeswood, from New South Wales, Australia, one of the greatest entomologists of all time, who has written over 270 scientific papers and other articles in biological and natural history journals has now his own website.
http://www.calodema.com/

6. Our own website has had a little facelift. We hope you like it.
Other pages and departments will follow in due course of time.
We will, however, go on to refrain from obnoxious things like Flash, cookies, ActiveX etc., and we still believe the most important matter about a website is its content.

7. CU has many new high profile recipients of our unique honorary doctoral degree, among them:

T.N.Vallinayagam, India , a former judge at the High Court of Madras & Karantaka

Vincent Wong, a lawyer from Malaysia
http://www.vincentwongpartners.com

Stephan Augustin, Germany, inventor of the watercone™, providing an inexpensive way to swiftly make contaminated or seawater drinkable.
http://www.augustin.net

Dr. Wolfram Loch, a German engineer and the first person in the world who photographically documented the development of a blizzard in a laboratory, 1963.

Dr. Thomas Paikeday, Canada, full-time accomplished lexicographer of American and Canadian English dictionaries since 1964.

As to our list of honorees: it is now the  biggest of its kind on the WWW, with

We are confident that CU holds a world record. After about 9 years
running the program
We now have 238 honorees on our weblist, from 36 (!) countries,

sealed soon.
Most honorees reside in the US, followed by Italy, Germany, and the UK.
More details to be found at

The list is also available as a free e-book, which is listed at CNET,

Recently we added the handy option to request an honoree/expert as a
speaker for events, workshops, seminars etc.
What we do have in mind is to present a list people can actually work
with in many meaningful ways, below we give you an example (book review).

Dear honorees, friends, clients, students and staff members of Cosmopolitan University:

We wish you and all your loved ones a happy and prosperous New Year. May all your wishes for 2001 come true!

Latest CU news (January 2001):
** Dr. M.  will now offer psychological advice via the internet. Dr. E. has to turn to some prior obligations but will maintain his famous link list. However, that advice which has been free until now will require a fee in the future. The reasons: it's grown to big, and in addition we feel that some of our colleagues who offer the same service for a not too small fee used our free service for their own purposes.

** We now do have a liaison officer in Japan. (see contact page for address).

** We welcome aboard Dr. Simone Beninati, Ph.D. who is now involved in the academic life of Cosmopolitan University. Dr. Beninati is a professor of cell biology at the University of Rome - http://www.uniroma2.it/biologia/lab/biolcell/biochem/index.html - and the director of a group of researchers at its cell biochemistry lab, working on cancer, AIDS and other diseases related to an enzyme called transglutaminase. She has a patent pending in the USA on a drug able to prevent colon cancer and melanomas. Dr. Beninati is a member of many scientific societies like the American Association for Cell Biology, New York Academy of Science etc.
Her e-mail address (beninas@libero.it) is open to all STUDENTS interested in receiving advice or explanations about cell biology , cell biochemistry and related fields. She will also be offering a certificate course in her field in the near future.

Until next time!
