It is obvious that the bush admin invaded the wrong country, started a war under false pretenses. Meanwhile the terrorist threat coming out of afghanistan is being neglected, and handled poorly by an inept administration. It will have bitter consequences for us all. (Dr. wayne gahan, CU, 02-06-2008))

Here is a must read report on the situation in Afghanistan.

"Manley Panel on Afghanistan: The Senlis Council’s Analysis

Report
25 JANUARY 2008

The Manley Panel’s report includes an extensive list of essential policy changes which address the full spectrum of issues facing Canada’s mission in Afghanistan: Canada should stay in Afghanistan until the job is done; more troops are needed from our NATO allies; Poppy for Medicine projects should be implemented as part of a coherent counter-narcotics policy; CIDA should be revamped; and the Kandahar hospital should be refurbished and renovated as a signature Canadian project. Although the Panel is not as clear on action items to deal with the Taliban and Al Qaeda bases in Pakistan as they could have been, their report does recognise the insurgent safe havens in Pakistan as a critical problem. The USA Electoral Process

Primaries, caucuses, punch card ballots, hanging (pregnant) chads, provisional ballots, popular vote, electoral college, battleground states, Help America Vote Act, campaign finance laws, electronic voting machines with no print out option, voter rolls flawed, 20,000 lawyers on standby: the US system is a mess, confusing at times, but by all means it's outdated, flawed, outright stupid, chaotic to say the least. It's a shame that the "superpower" (declining?) USA, a technically rather sophisticated nation has such an antiquated electoral system. A reform is more than overdue. Shame on America, that four years after the Florida debacle, the same machine type is  used in Ohio and other states. USA- a country with the most powerful army but a very primitive electoral system - what does that tell us? (Wayne Gahan, CU) PS: HINT: India has a very sophisticated system, and it's a so called developing country: http://www.indian-elections.com/electoralsystem/

Thad Anderson a Law student at St. John's School of Law in Queens writes : "During the last four years, the Bush administration's policies have gone against everything I’ve ever learned about how America is supposed to work: as a political science major, as an Eagle Scout, and as a member of a family that has lived in the American South since before the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were signed"
Most interesting is
the Download For Democracy campaign, "which uses peer-to-peer networking to give Americans a fast, free, and easy way to access over 600 government documents."
