Prof. Dr. David Biermann
Biermann, David, MA, BA (Cantab), FCollP, ARCM, PGCE, RSA, CTEFL. Hohenfels, Germany / Easington, Co Durham, England. Lecturer at the University of Cooperative Education, Ravensburg, Germany, Lecturer at the Paedagogische Hochschule, Weingarten, Germany. Outstanding achievements in the field(s) of: Education, Lecturing, Teaching English, Tutoring, Conducting, Teaching Music, Authoring. Dr. Biermann is the Continental Europe and UK Lecturer and Tutor at the Open University. He teaches the Advanced Music Course, AA302 "From Composition to Performance, Musicians at Work".
He tutors and mentors the Open University (UK) Openings Course Y002 "Words and Sounds", and has just been appointed Tutor for the new Openings Course Y004 "Open to Change". Both these openings courses mark a radically new development in Open University thinking, as they seek to encourage, by means of brief Distance-Learning courses, adults of all ages and abilities to take the first steps towards embarking on University Degree Study.
Dr. David Biermann has also lectured in Asia (China and Seoul) and Europe ( Bristol and Innsbruck) on the use of computers and keyboards to teach students of all abilities. These lectures were under the auspices of the International Society of Music Education (ISME). In 1974 he was privileged to be invited by his teacher, violin virtuoso Alfredo Campoli and Prof. Michael Talbot of Liverpool University to play solo violin
in the world-premiere of Violin Sonata no 3 (RV 757) from Vivaldi's Manchester Violin Sonatas, which had just been discovered in Manchester's Public Library, UK.
Publications: SWITCHED ON published 1992 by Oxford University Press). Additionally , Prof. Dr. Biermann has compared music education practice in Germany ,UK and USA, and has written on his findings in UK and German national papers and educational periodicals.
